The photograph is a snapshot of a sign that reads "TAHSIS COMPANY LIMITED GOLD RIVER PULP MILL RESTRICTED PARKING AREA NO PARKING IN THIS AREA AT ANY TIME AREA TO BE KEPT CLEAR FOR PULP MILL SERVICE VEHICLES AND MOBILE EQUIPMENT UNAUTHORIZED VEHICLES WILL BE TOWED AWAY AT OWNERS EXPENSE".

Tahsis Company Ltd.

Context

Gold River was constructed in the 1960s to house families for the newly constructed Tahsis Company Ltd. pulp mill, located where the mouth of the Gold River meets Muchalat Inlet. Pollution from the pulp mill soon became a problem causing health issues for nearby residents and interfering with fishing. The Tahsis Company Ltd. pulp mill no longer exists.
